Probably The Most Dreamlike and Surreal Place On Earth

Forget about surreal illustrations and photo manipulations we’ve been writing about for the past few weeks. Today we’ve discovered probably the most dreamlike and surreal place on the earth that is even more extraordinary than the most of photo manipulations. Not for nothing is said that nature is the greatest artist.

Below you’ll find a photo compilation consisting of the most beautiful photographs of the Fly Geyser, the most vidid and colourful geothermal geyser located in Washoe County, Nevada. Actually, Fly Geyser is not an entirely natural phenomenon. It was created accidentally in 1964 from a geothermal test well inadequately capped. The scalding water has erupted from the well since then, leaving calcium carbonate deposits growing at the rate of several inches per year. A vivid colours on the mounds are the result of thermophilic algae thriving in the extreme micro-climate of the geysers.

Unfortunately, the geyser is located on a private ranch and has its owner. It’s hidden from the viewers behind a high fence and a locked gate with spikes on top of it.
