Incredibly Detailed Caricatures by Jason Seiler

Recently I discovered Chicago-based caricaturist Jason Seiler. He is a well known artist in USA commissioned by many worldwide brands. Also, he has published few books of his artworks. As it is said in his biography, Jason started to practice “drawing” (or just making fun of his teachers) from the early days in high school. After getting in trouble for drawing parodies of his history teacher in high school, Jason went on to study fine art illustration at the American Academy of Art in Chicago for two years before beginning his professional work in earnest.

One of his series of caricatures are currently trending in Behance. What can I say, I fell in love with his caricatures at first glance. However, one thing in my head remain unanswered for a long time. Are they digitally manipulated photos or real illustrations. It appears that most of Jason’s caricatured are incredibly detailed illustrations. Nevertheless, author says that the real challenge is not to draw a decent likeness of a well-known face, but to capture the character of the person. “Many artists can draw a decent likeness of a well-known face, but the challenge is to capture not just the likeness but the character of the person. Capturing this truth, or essence, is, for me, the most important factor in considering a portrait successful or not.”, says Jason Seier.

Below you’ll find the collection of Jason’s best caricatures. However, at first, I would like to notice one thing for people working with kids. Don’t punish them for making caricatures of you. Maybe in that way you are suppressing one of his great talents. Who knows…
