Coolest Carnivorous Plants That Will Scare The Hell Out of You
There are many things in this crazy planet that are non-sense for me. One of them are some plants that eat meat. It’s like you had a microwave which would eat everything you put in it, instead of warming it or a flashlight which preferred Greek salad over batteries. Enough about their behavior. Despite their habit to eat alive flies and stuff, they are as much enchanting as weird. Here are 5 most amazing examples.
Plant That Eat Meat, No. 1: Drosera
This little beauty is actually a sly killer. No surprise it is also known as Sundew, because of its “dew” that is actually a digestive ferment that attracts insects and then dooms them by sticking to itself and being eaten. Found in bogs and sandy beaches.
Plant That Eat Meat, No. 2: Flytrap
Oh this is creepy. You see those “hairs” that look more as of teeth? It looks like the whole plant is a mouth with teeth :D. I guess it was created only to eat. Anyways, when any insect or bug touch two or more of these hairs, the Flytrap quickly closes its huge “jaw” and traps the prey. However there is still a hope for our little fly – if the prey doesn’t touch the hairs within 20 seconds again, the jaw won’t close. Otherwise, if the fly fails to stay unspotted, you know what happens inside the Flytrap…
Plant That Eat Meat, No. 3: Nepenthes
A bit less known but still incredibly amazing also known as tropical pitcher, contains an attractive liquid inside. It lures insects by nectar’s scent. Damn nepenthes is truly a predator. It can seduce and kill such small animals as mice. Once the doomed gets into the “pitcher” or as some people like to call it, monkey cup, the one’s days are counted. Found in Australia, Asia and Sri Lanka.
Plant That Eat Meat, No. 4: Sarracenia
Look, what a beautiful flower! No, it is a dangerous murderer which is charged to thousands of kills per year. Not surprisingly, insects, and people of course, often confuse Sarracenia with flowers. By its look it is a lot similar to Nepenthes. Its leaves even turn red at the end of summer for better “hunting”. Once something goes inside the leaf, it is bygone. The plant detects a pool of water that comes with the prey and traps it. Found in the United States and Canada.
Plant That Eat Meat, No. 5: Pinguicula
The most gorgeous one, which looks ok, in spite of fact that it is a cruel predator. The principle is almost the same as the Sundew’s. The colourful leaves are covered with sticky digestive enzyme which means death to anyone that touches it and is not strong enough to escape.
